About LouisvilleLouisville is a part of the Denver-Boulder metropolitan area and is just a few miles from the city of Boulder in the middle of beautiful natural surroundings. Louisville is home to some 20,000 residents and is primarily a close-knit bedroom community. Residents from Louisville benefit from the close proximity to Boulder and all its "big city" amenities while being able to take advantage of the much lower housing costs, views, open space and small town feel of their local communities. Louisville was named after Louis Nawatny, a local landowner and mine owner. Acme Mine operated directly beneath Louisville. These mines were among more than 30 that operated in the area mines found in and around the area around the turn of the century. Louisville was incorporated in 1882. When the use of coal declined following World War II, the mines began to shut down. The last mines near Louisville closed in 1952. Subsequently, many people moved out of the area and the towns evolved into a quiet ranching and farming communities. Superior's population hovered around 250 until recently. Today, Louisville benefits from a booming real estate market thanks to their close proximity to Boulder and the development of new highways that has attracted new industry. The city hosts several annual events each year including the Louisville Fall Festival that offers family fun, food and entertainment. Other festivities include the Taste of Louisville every summer and the annual holiday Parade of Lights every December. Louisville and Superior both offer quaint neighborhoods and homes in a variety of architectural styles. With the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop, there is a myriad of recreational opportunities for residents to enjoy. Outdoor adventure includes hiking and biking trails, rock climbing, water sports, winter sports, fishing, hunting and boating. For the golf enthusiasts, there are numerous world-class courses in the area as well as public tennis courts, recreation centers that offers programs for all ages as well as several sports complexes. There are about 10 ski resort areas within a 100-mile drive from the area. For those who prefer indoor activities, there are numerous shopping centers and malls in the area. The new Flatirons Crossing Mall located just minutes from both communities on Highway 36 in Broomfield has 1.5 million square feet of retail space including four department stores, feature and fashion outlets, an AMC theater complex, restaurants, an outdoor village and more. Louisville SchoolsStudents from Louisville attend schools within the Boulder Valley School District. Currently, there are approximately 40 elementary schools, 20 middle schools and 13 high schools. The district is considered one of the best in the state with some of the highest ACT and SAT scores and has been ranked as one of the top 100 school districts in the United States. Higher Eduication facilities include the Front Range Community College, Naropa University, the University of Colorado at Boulder and at Denver and the Colorado Art Academy.
