About Longmont

Longmont is located in the St. Vrain River Valley, less than 40 miles north of Denver and just 10 miles east of the Rocky Mountain foothills.

Longmont combines an older style rural living with all the conveniences of a cosmopolitan city. Once primarily an agricultural area the community has grown to be an attractive location for high-tech manufacturing companies.

Longmont was founded in 1871 by members of the "Chicago Colorado Colony" who settled in the St. Vrain Valley. An expedition headed by Major Stephen H. Long explored the valley in 1820. Longmont's name is a combination of "Long" from Long's Peak and "mont" from the French word for mountain.

With a population of over 73,000, Longmont is the second largest city in Boulder County. The real estate market is diverse and offers a variety of neighborhoods and styles

Facilities in Longmont

Longmont residents enjoy easy access to some of the most spectacular scenery in the United States, not to mention a daily breathtaking view of the eastern slope and Longs Peak, for which the town was named. Nearby is Roosevelt National Forest with its many recreation areas, while Rocky Mountain Park, and the spectacular Trail Ridge Road, is but 30 miles to the northwest.

Families can visit many local parks, the Longmont Recreation Center and Barbour Ponds State Park, known for some of the best warm-water fishing in the state. Longmont has 92 designated historic structures and two nationally recognized registered historic districts. The Longmont Museum and Old Firehouse Art Center provides local access to art and culture.

Longmont students are part of the St. Vrain Valley School District where high school ACT and SAT scores have consistently exceeded national averages. The University of Colorado, Colorado State University and the University of Northern Colorado are all nearby
