About Broomfield, ColoradoBroomfield is located halfway between Boulder and Denver on Interstate 36 and became Colorado's first "planned community" in 1961.
Founded in 1877, Broomfield began as a small farming community known as Zang's Spur. The city was named after A.J. Zang, founder of the Zang Brewing Company, located near the present day intersection of 120th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard. In the early 1900s, the city was renamed Broomfield after all the broomcorn grown in the area. During the 1950s, Broomfield began to develop as a bedroom community for Denver. The city was officially incorporated in 1961 and adopted its first master plan in 1974. The city continues to revise its master plan now that it has become its own county, the first to be added to the state in nearly 100 years! Businesses have access to an excellent ground and air transportation network and a large and skilled workforce, ample education resources, many established business parks and thousands of acres of open space for development. Broomfield’s’ workforce is supported by high technology manufacturing. Broomfield houses more than 700 firms that employ more than 30,000 employees in high-tech research, manufacturing and information technology services. Broomfield has grown from 200 residents to over 41,500 today. Facilities in BroomfieldBroomfield remains a pleasant, quiet place to live. With a distinct four-season climate, Broomfield is always brimming with things to do outside. Many local schools have received state and national recognition for excellence in education.
